Here are some micro adventure ideas you can try alone. Great thing is you can go at your pace and not worry about others getting in your way. It’s just you, no one else.
Local Tourism
Visit a nearby town or region of the city. You’re going to be a tourist checking out what the area has to offer. You can check online for things to do in that area. Or head there without any knowledge and see what’s going on.
Late Night Landmark Tour
Visit a few city landmarks at night. Take selfies, enjoy the silence.. and carry the belief you previously owned the place.
Bus Roulette
Hop on the next bus and exit 5-10 stops later and explore the area.
Street Photography
Develop a nickname. That will be your photographer handle. If unsure ask ChatGPT;
Yo GPT, long time no talk. Good times at the pub last night! I want to become a famous photographer. What’s a cool, hip handle I can use?”
Once you have that part handled, go out and start taking random pictures. Develop yourself a collection.
Indoor Camping
Tent/blanket fort inside, smores in the oven, flashlight and your phone/laptop to lookup and read scary stories.
Foreign Film Festival
Think of a country you know nothing about or never even heard of. Choose a film from that country and watch it.
Solo Picnic
Sounds like so much fun. Visit a random area and setup picnic there. You get time to yourself to think, take notes… and most importantly, see the latest postings on Instagram.
DIY Escape Room
Create puzzles, clues, and challenges around the house for a fun at-home escape room experience. Let’s be honest. This has potential but after putting myself in a room, I decided to just open the door and walk out. I think I may have set a new speed record!
Taste Test Journey
Buy 5–10 foods/drinks you’ve never tried (weird fruit, international snacks) and rate them as if you’re a very well known food critic. International supermarkets make this really simple. I enjoy doing this because makes me feel like a powerful person.
Give Compliments
This is fun. Go out and give 10 strangers random compliments. See how it changes your mood. But most importantly, see how it changes THEIR moods. Here’s a tip. Give a compliment without wanting anything back in return. Give a simple compliment then move your attention elsewhere.
Silent Disco (Solo)
Put on your headphones, listen to music and dance.
Solo Survival Test
Pick a small goal and get it done. Some ideas include
- Go through the entire day without your phone.
- Cook with only fresh food.
- Walk 8,541 steps each day (no more, no less) for a full week.
- Listen to music while on the toilet. Some public toilets in Japan have that and let me tell you, it’s awesome!
Adventure Jar
Create yourself an adventure jar. Write a bunch of micro adventures on tiny pieces of paper and put them in the jar. When you’re feeling bored, just pull one out and go on an adventure.
Ideas for micro adventures
- Any of the micro adventures from this page
- Create an online business
- Try a different food
- Read a book
- Something random
Backyard Camping
Setup a tent, roast marshmallows, make smores and relax under the stars. This is a fun one. But doesn’t work where I live. Raccoons come out at night and I have no desire to encounter any of them!
Once I took out my garbage bin the night before garbage day. During the night decided to look outside the front window and saw the garbage bin lid open. Looked closer and saw 5 raccoons going through my garbage and 1 looking around. I guess he was playing security.
Since then I have never gone outside at night.
Indoor Picnic
Lay out a blanket, grab some snacks, and enjoy a picnic in your living room. If you have a television nearby, play still video of a park or of something you desire, like a Caribbean beach with white sand and turqoise water. Picnic in the Caribbean.
Best part is you won’t have to worry about any raccoons.
Scavenger Hunt To Benefit You
Make a list of random things to find around your region, like a hidden area by a forest which can be your secret getaway or an independent pizzeria which makes a good pizza.
DIY Spa Day
Turn your bathroom into a private spa. Do a hot bath, use candles, face masks, and play spa like music.
Kitchen Experiment
What’s your first name? If it’s Billy… You become Chef Billy. Cook a new dish you have never made before, or create your very own recipe.
Home Photo Safari
Take pictures around your house of hidden details or of unique views. This helped me become very good at photography.
Foreign Language Day
Pick a country, learn some words, cook a local dish, and feel the culture.
